Having trouble staying focused before the Holidays?
How to tame a distracted or squirrelly mind…
I don’t know about you, but I get easily distracted around the holiday season. So much to do both personally and within work, like there wasn’t enough going on already!?
If you’re working from home and don’t have that separation between work and personal space that creates a whole new level of distraction. So how can we calm our minds and stay present, focused on what needs to happen despite the holiday demands?
Here are 3x common yet effective tips to help you calm your mind and gain some focus:
• Take a Deep Breath - better yet take 3x. Then Write Down the things you know you must do by end of the day. Rather than letting them swirl around in your brain get them out on paper. This will not only save energy from trying to remember them as your day ticks away it gives you a clear list to glance at when feeling your wavering off track.
• Take a Break - don’t just stay at your workspace and start scrolling through your phone but rather get up, stretch, and take a walk to another room or better yet outside for fresh air. Inviting movement into your day will help your mind move on from the “swirling” and gain focus when you return to your workspace or task at hand.
• Set the Boundary - do tasks in 30-45 min chunks. By applying a time limit to a task, it should create the focus naturally. Are you someone who says, “I work well under pressure”? If so, you may need to create your own pressure at certain times to get you on track and focused to the end of a task.
Studies have shown that deadlines produce action So, give it a try and you may be surprised how much you can get done in this amount of time.
Give it a try and find calm or fun in the process!
Easy Holiday Hacks to keep you sane in December…
I don’t know about you but I can’t believe we have reached December already! This is exciting yet for some, adds a whole new level of overwhelm that comes with the holiday season.
Here are just a few “Holiday Hacks” that have helped keep me, my friends, and family stay sane through the month of December:
SLOW COOKER - if you don’t have one GET ONE! It is a time saver and ensures you & your loved ones have a great healthy meal prepped in little time. Prep for recipes is usually less than 15 mins and voila it saves your energy. Best of all less clean up. My go to recipes are beef bourguignon, chicken stew or whole chicken and veggies. Each can be served with other sides to extend the servings.
BAKING - if you and your friends find it hard to get together over the holidays due to family commitments have a “baking party”. Share a morning, afternoon or evening with friends to bake some holiday goodies. Bring the kids along and get them involved. Kill “two birds with one stone”, a fun visit with your friends and you all have your holiday baking wrapped up!
GIFTS - don’t put yourself under stress if finances are tighter this year. Remember its not the $$ you spend its the thought. One year I gave my friends and colleagues a mason jar with a recipe in it for holiday cookies. It saved me money and gave them a unique gift. Some enjoyed making the recipe with their kids while others just loved the end product.
If there’s one thing to remember this holiday season its to ask yourself when feeling overwhelmed, “Am I feeling JOY in this?” If not, what can you or others do differently to make it more joyful?
The holidays are a time for enjoyment and you deserve some FUN, REST and RELAXATION!
All the best, Catherine x
What is my “Energetic Set Point”
Did you know, we all have a unique “ENERGETIC SET POINT” around money, health, love and all the categories that fall under these, career, weight, food, relationships, salary, plus so much more. It is engrained in us from past experiences, our upbringing, our assumptions and beliefs. Our energetic set point though set, can be changed, and altered to one that allows us to embrace all the abundance in health, money and love that we choose to have in our lives.
So how do we know what ours is and how can we begin changing it to gain what we really want?
Three ways to getting familiar with your Energetic Set Point:
Money:
What amount of monthly earnings makes you feel comfortable and content? This is your “lower money limit”. Now, think of how much monthly income you want to have and assess how this makes you feel. Your “higher money limit”. Are you nervous about the higher number? If so why, what comes up for you? What is your attitude around higher earnings? WHY do you think you feel this nervousness?
Health:
This one is a little different as it is said that there is a “genetic” set point when it comes to our weight. (MDAnderson.org) But, what about other health areas? What is your mindset around food, processed vs whole? How about your feelings towards exercise and fitness? Assessing this will likely give you some answers to why your health may or may not be where you would like it to be.
Love:
Our lives revolve around relationships with others as much as with ourselves. What is your feeling around love for yourself and love with others? When are you most content in relationships vs when you are unsure, nervous, or anxious? By identifying this it will provide you with some clear answers to where your energetic set point lies when it comes to love and relationships. Once you address this you should be left feeling good at where the relationships are at. Or is there something more or something different you are looking for?
Raising your energetic set point to receive more of what you feel is lacking in your life or reach what you truly want is possible. Identifying where you’re at is the first step then working on your MINDSET comes next.
One easy way to start doing this is to write down, what you want, how you want to feel when you have it or reach it. Keep this visible and read it at least once per day. By creating more awareness around the things, you want vs staying status quo, the more you should feel a shift in your actions, feelings and mindset around them. It will naturally create a comfortable feeling and prepare you for when they show up.
Have fun with this and don’t be hard on yourself. This is something that can change with the right support and guidance.
